It’s THAT time of year again!

The days are short, its cold and dark, but there’s also some magic in the air too.

The fallen leaves are cute, the new winter outfits snuggly and warm, and there is much to celebrate and be thankful for. 

From Diwali, to Christmas, boxing day and New Years though you’re going to be surrounded by treats, eats and booze.

start by putting health first by treating yourself each morning

Treats are not sins they’re a well earned reward and you deserve it after all the hard work you do! Diet culture has us believing that being lean has to be punishing, but let’s banish that thinking (and crappy cups of coffee) and start off with something special, first thing every day.

INGREDIENTS:

1 tsp matcha green tea powder 2 tsp sweetener
3 tbsp warm water
300ml hot milk

It’s a No Brainer: Spoon the green tea and sweetener into a mug and top with the milk heated in a saucepan.

I usually set off with my partners flask,  because 90% of the time I’ve left my travel mug in the gym the day before!

PRO TIP: The best sweeteners are Jordan’s Skinny Syrup. Smores flavour is my current favourite, and this is something I pick up all the time in TK Maxx either at Leicester Clock Tower or Thurmaston for £3 or £4 a bottle.

We’re not saying it as a joke it really is true! Cocoa is one of the healthiest substances on the planet, we just have to know how to use it properly. Chilli and chocolate is warming and exotic. Try this warming dish and you’ll never side-eye your mates nasty hotdogs at the winter fare again!

lean dark chocolate chilli

  • 500g extra lean mince beef (under %5 fat)
  • One tin of Italian chopped tomatoes
  • 1 heaped tsp of easy garlic
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 20g %85 dark chocolate Teaspoon of chilli flakes
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 2 teaspoons of tomato puree One small onion
  • Teaspoon and 1⁄2 of chilli powder 100ml – 200ml of stock
  • Salt and pepper

Chop the onion and cook with the olive oil until transparent on a gentle heat. Add the garlic, chilli and cumin and cook for a further 3-2 minutes until fragrant. Add the mince. Cook until browned and add in the cinnamon stick, stock and tomatoes. Bring to the boil and then simmer with the dark chocolate for a further 10-5 minutes until thickened.

Serve with sour cream.

home baked protein cookies washed down with hot cocoa

A client of ours came up with this several years ago and it remains a favourite. Customise this to your tastes with a variety of fruits, toppings and spices.

simplicity at its best...

For the cookies:

  • 40g oats
  • 15g raisins
  • 1⁄2 tsp of nutmeg
  • 1⁄2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 scoop of The Protein Works Apple and Cinnamon whey
  • 1 banana

For the hot chocolate:

  • 180ml water
  • 180ml unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 scoop chocolate brownie Ideal Lean protein
  • 2 tsps unsweetened cocoa powder

Cookies in 10 mins:

Preheat your oven to 180 degrees and mash the ingredients together with a fork. Spray your baking tray with 1 cal spray and then spoon on the mixture into ‘4-3 cookies. Add small chunks of 85% dark chocolate if you want to go all out and bake for about 8-10 minutes or until cooked but still slightly soft in the middle.

Hot cocoa to go:

Simply whisk everything together in a pan over a medium heat. It should take around 4 minutes or around that for your ideal temperature. Pour into your favour festive mug – and serve with a sprinkling of cinnamon or nutmeg as you wish.
